SCIENTIFIC SEMINAR ON RESEARCHING AND PROPOSING SOLUTIONS FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISIM DEVELOPPMENT IN CAO BANG IN ASSOCIATION WITH NON NUOC CAO BANG UGGP

On December 10th 2020, Vietnam National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development and Cao Bang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly organized a scientific seminar to introduce the national level research project: “Researching and proposing solutions for sustainable tourism development in Cao Bang in association with Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp”.

Mr. Ngo Huy Kien - Vice Director of Vietnam National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development introduced the research project

The project "Researching and proposing solutions for sustainable tourism development in Cao Bang province in association with Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp" is a national-level project, which is conducted in 3 years. The results of the project will be selected to build a sustainable tourism model associated with geology in Cao Bang province.
The seminar was attended by representative leaders of Agro Processing and Market Development Authority, Vietnam National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection - Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, Geological Museum - Ministry of  Natural Resources and Environment, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Department of Science and Technology, People's Committees of districts: Hoa An, Ha Quang, Quang Hoa, Trung Khanh, Ha Lang, Thach An, Nguyen Binh; Representatives of the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp, the Management Board of Special National Relics, and the Management Board Phja Oac - Phja Den National Park. Mr. Truong The Vinh, Deputy Director of Cao Bang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Director of the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp chaired the workshop.
The participants were presented the following information: Solution proposal for sustainable tourism development in Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp area; Introduction of the project’s key information; master evaluation and rationale related to sustainable tourism in association with the global geopark; Surveying routes to evaluate the current status of Cao Bang tourism activities associated with the geopark; overview of the heritage values in Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp; overview of the developing process of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp associated with sustainable tourism development.

Mr.Vi Tran Thuy - Vice Director of the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp shared his opinion about the project

At the seminar, the participants discussed, and giving feedback for the project, especially the issues related to sustainable tourism development in the geopark area so that the project could be suitable for the local socio-economic conditions.
Mr.Vi Tran Thuy, Vice Director of the Management Board of Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp said that the content and scope of the research project are comprehensive and close to practical conditions of tourism activities in Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp. However, the project needs to clarify the rationale for the project implementation such as:
specifying the contribution of the research to the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, especially the Decision 147/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister dated January 22, 2020 on approving the tourism development strategy for Vietnam by 2030, which emphasizes “Sustainable and inclusive tourism development on the basis of green growth, maximizing tourism's contribution to the sustainable development goals of the UN; effective management and use of natural resources, environment protection and biodiversity conservation, proactive adaptation to climate change, ensuring national security”. In addition, the research needs to indicate specific activities to propose policy recommendations in the direction of sustainable tourism development in the geopark area, for example, focusing on: tourism development planning, eco-friendly tourism activities, sharing economic benefits, participatory tourism development plan, and close to local practical needs, preserving traditional culture - indigenous knowledge, environmentally friendly agriculture, establishing a network of partners committed to sustainable tourism practice, and especially environmental protection, proposing suitable tourism products and potential customer segments of Cao Bang.

At the seminar, delegates and scientists also spent time discussing, evaluating generally, analyzing and evaluating the potential and issues that the research should focus on and propose suitable solutions with the practical conditions of each related district and bring them to their full potential.
