The working delegation of Cao Bang province at the Sixth Asia Pacific Geoparks Network Symposium in Indonesia

The symposium was attended by about 800 delegates, including geologists, scientists, policymakers and APGN participants from 30 countries in the Asia Pacific region. This symposium provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss issues about APGN Geoparks management.

PGN is established to serve for the coordination of GGN activities at a regional or continental level and as fora for the exchange of information and co-operation between Global Geoparks and Global Geopark professionals in the region. The activities of Regional Geopark Networks include the organization of Regional Geopark Conferences, workshops and seminars, capacity building activities, common projects, promotional activities, and common publications. 
This symposium includes 5 topics: 1) Empowering local socio-economic for sustainable development; 2) Engaging Communities, geohazard risk, and recovery; 3) Popularizing scientific knowledge for public education; 4) Promoting aspiring global geoparks; 5) Networking volcanic and karst landscape of global geoparks. The topics are discussed across more than 150 oral presentations and 63 poster presentations delivered in the symposium.

Cao Bang province is now developing Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp into the brand of Cao Bang’s tourism. The criteria of a UGGp and together with the Program No 10 of Party committee of Cao Bang province on tourism development combined can work as guiding policy to guide the development of Cao Bang’s tourism in which strength and advantages of the province are promoted and geological, cultural, historical and biodiversity values are conserved for tourism development. The development of Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark following the criteria of the UNESCO so far has contributed to creating an enabling environment for tourism development of Cao Bang province, etc.

The delegation of Cao Bang province actively participated in all the activities of the Organizing Committee, the Thematic workshops to learn and share experience in the development of UNESCO global geoparks. The delegation also carried out some sidelines activities such as meeting and exchanging with other geoparks, headquarter and regional UNESCO officers, UNESCO global geopark council, and other UGGs to enhance the working network for further improvement of the effectiveness of the UNESCO global geopark model.

During the Conference, Non nuoc Cao Bang UGGp participated at the Geofair to introduce distinguished values on traditional cultures, history, geology, landscapes and bio-diversity of the geopark. It also introduced to visitors some identical products in the geopark areas and promotional video of the geopark.
