The Global Geoparks Network initiated last September a campaign for the promotion of UNESCO Global Geoparks as sustainable tourism destinations.

This global campaign to promote UNESCO Global Geoparks through social media reached 1.280.365 people in just 7 days! 21.663 of them asked for further information by clicking and visiting the Global Geoparks Network webpage during the same period. This proves the progress made by our Network in raising the Geoparks profile and promoting them as sustainable tourism destinations.

As the COVID-19 pandemic having a massive social and economic impact comes to an end, it is the moment to raise the UNESCO Global Geoparks profile as safe destinations for holidays in nature and recreation.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, both developed and developing economies have been hit and marginalized groups and the most vulnerable have been hit hardest of all! Geoparks contribute to social cohesion, supporting  local communities and promoting an inclusive development for all.

The restart of tourism will help kickstart recovery and growth. It is essential that the benefits this will bring are enjoyed widely and fairly.

The 169 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 44 Countries, hosting geological landscapes, geosites and landforms of international significance, are protecting and promoting geological heritage attractions as key elements for sustainable tourism development!

UNESCO Global Geoparks promote tourism for inclusive growth collaborating with local entrepreneurship and especially women cooperatives and family jobs in their territory, supporting local communities and creating new job opportunities for all.

UNESCO Global Geoparks promote local products and local gastronomy, support the use of traditional techniques in the production of local products and traditional recipes in food preparation, connecting the local traditions with the territorial geological heritage and landscapes.

UNESCO Global Geoparks offer to their visitors  unique experiences and a broad variety  of activities such as hiking, trekking, horse riding, mountain biking, surfing, climbing, mountain running, bird-watching, sailing, rafting, and many more

The Global Geoparks Network starts a new campaign through social media to promote each one of the 169 UNESCO Global Geoparks , the Earth’s hidden treasures to the Geopark community and the tourist market.

Every week a group of UNESCO Global Geoparks will be presented, supporting their promotion as global geological attractions and sustainable tourism destinations!
